Baseball is Slowly Winding Down

Coastal Plains League

The Asheboro Copperheads after losing three games in a row,  won three games by a score of 8-5 and 5-3 over Forest City and 5-1 over the Hi-Toms. However the Copperheads played on the road Tuesday against Martinsville & their bats just couldn't keep up, losing 18-5. Asheboro plays their next two games at home. The Copperheads remain a half game ahead of Gastonia in the Coastal Plains West Division.

Carolina-Virginia League

The Deep River Muddogs played a double header this past Friday against the Catawba Valley Stars. In game one, the Muddogs lost 8-2. The Muddogs only had 4 hits on the game, with the bright spot being Sheldon Brady. Brady hit a 2 run homer, driving in the Muddogs only runs. In game two of the doubleheader, the Muddogs lost another tough game 3-1. The Muddogs out hit the Stars, but just couldn't get them across the plate. The Muddogs Trey Byrd drove in the only run for Deep River. The Muddogs played Roanoke Tuesday night at home, losing 11-2. The Muddogs play on the road Wednesday and Thursday.

American Legion Area III

Eastern Randolph Post 81 won their first game of the state playoffs against Haywood on Friday, 8-3. However, they weren't so fortunate the next two games. Post 81 lost to Rowan 11-1 and to Caldwell 7-3.

The American Legion Southeast Regional, will start next Wednesday August 5th at McCrary Park. Randolph Post 45 will be participating as the host team. The other teams participating are as follows: Tuscaloosa, AL Post 34; Florida Champion; Georgia Champion; Rowan County, NC Post 342; South Carolina Champion, Columbia, TN, Post 91; West Virginia Champion

High School

High school summer football practice resumed back on Monday and will continue this week, with August 1st being the first mandatory day. Soccers official day will be August 1st as well, with Golf starting on Monday August 3rd. Please
check with your players school, for practice times.

Southwestern Randolph HS will be hosting a basketball camp August 10-12. Rising 3rd thru 5th graders will be from 5-7 pm. Rising 6th thru 8th grade will be from 7-9 pm. Cost is $50.
